“Welcome to this series on the Gita… we’ll be covering roughly … the main points, the most important philosophical concepts. This is Kalyug, and in Kalyug, Bhakti is recommended above all else… the only path to God which is possible to follow in Kalyug. Gita is said to be the essence of Vedic teachings… Veda is the foundation of all Hindu scriptures. Whatever saint comes, even if Bhagwan himself comes and says something which is Ved Virud… it is unacceptable.”
“Veda is eternal… it’s not a book at all… God produces the Ved even before he produces the universe. Ved is required for us, those who have not attained God, who are still under Maya. It’s an endless cycle of creation and destruction… which means that the Ved has been required since eternity. The essence of Veda is Upanishad… the Upanishads deal with nishreyas. There are 1,180 Upanishads… 108 that are most important. Sanatan Dharm is eternal… What we call nowadays Hinduism is actually Sanatan Dharm.”
“The meaning of each mantra of the Veda is like an endless ocean… only a divine personality can understand the true meaning. Another scripture which is there to help us understand… is Gita… Gita is the concentrated essence of the Upanishads. Gita is called Brahma Vidya Shastra… primarily for attaining God. You cannot know God by listening to pravachan… by reading in scriptures… by debating scriptural philosophy. Gita is for showing us the path to God… we didn’t practice what Gita is teaching.”
“The very first shloka of Gita starts with the word dharma… this whole world for us is the field of dharma. God is sitting right in our heart, watching our every thought, every moment. This war… Arjuna started asking questions… This became the platform for Sri Krishna to reveal the knowledge of dharma. Arjuna looked and got confused… My bow is slipping out of my hand… My mind is totally confused. Oh Govinda, I’m not going to fight this war. This gave the platform for Sri Krishna to explain the whole Gita to Arjuna. Arjun gets everything off his chest… Shri Krishna listens patiently… and once Arjun stops talking then Shri Krishna starts answering his questions.”
